Don has always been driven to do his very best with any undertaking- whether running a marathon, playing golf, and especially in his financial services career. He was driven to learn and grow at the very beginning in 1978. He attained the CFP designation early on-- along with an extensive list of other industry credentials-- before most people knew what a Certified Financial Planner was.
Helping the hard-working middle-income families of Pittsburgh in making the complex simple earned him respect and much success early in his career. He seemed to have a keen understanding of the principles of behavior and its impact on financial decision making. Incorporating one’s comfort level into the discussions from the very start of any client relationship helped to build a bond of trust and those relationships blossomed and flourished. Time and again he encouraged his clients to choose logic over emotion for the sake of what they value most.
At the end of 2003, after 25 years in the industry, he embarked on a new chapter, creating The Speakman Financial Group. His vision: to create an independent financial services firm dedicated to helping families. Relationships are at the heart of who we are to this day. Thanks to Don’s guiding principles, The Speakman Financial Group proudly serves multiple generations of families and individuals, who live across this great country. He loves to hear about their families and their hopes, dreams, and challenges.
Don will tell you that of all the abundance in our lives, our families and relationships are the most important. He values his life with wife Jamie, whether in Pittsburgh or at their Cayman retreat. Together they enjoy sharing laughter and love with Don’s two daughters, Heather and Tricia, and their husbands and seven children. While they all live out of state, Don feels proud and blessed to work alongside son, Michael, who is following in his father’s footsteps as an inspired leader for the future of The Speakman Financial Group. “No amount of career success can top the happiness and gratitude you feel when you know your kids and grandkids are living life well. God is good!”
