When asked in kindergarten, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Michael was the only child in the class to resolutely reply, “Financial Advisor!” Growing up watching his father thrive in this business, it was clear at an early age they shared an affinity for numbers and working with people. Today, Michael is passionate about helping investors develop a plan to pursue their financial goals and demystify complex financial challenges. With an emphasis to focus on things within our control, he has found the ability to help individuals of all ages and all walks of life.
Graduating with a Finance Degree from Penn State University, Michael set off to work at Vanguard in Malvern, PA. In the five years he spent there, he gained a wealth of experience helping to launch their Personal Advisor Services offering. During his time at Vanguard, he earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP) designation.
A time of career growth was also a time of personal growth and in 2017 he married his long-time best friend and traveling companion, Megan. With friends and family by their side, they exchanged vows and celebrated in true Speakman-style in Killarney, Ireland. It was around this time the father / son duo determined the time was right to partner in the family firm. Michael and Megan returned home to their roots in Pittsburgh with Michael excited to join his dad at The Speakman Financial Group.
Over the years, life back in Pittsburgh has changed a bit for Michael and Megan. Their daughter, Cecelia Marie Speakman, joined the journey in March 2023 and life has never been the same! In 2025, they shifted from living in the city to the suburbs and are now living near the Pittsburgh International Airport in Moon Township. CeCe is a bundle of energy who brings so much joy to their lives. In addition to being a full-time mom, Megan now works as a freelance photographer and graphic designer. Their passion for travel and adventure remains and they are enjoying the exploration of the world through the eyes of CeCe.
